MANCALA++
A modern twist on a (multi) thousand year old classic
Mancala++ is a hybrid of Mancala and a deck builder. Play against a simple computer, and go for a high score!
### INTRODUCTION ###
Mancala++ is a hybrid traditional game and deckbuilding game
In Mancala, players take turns picking up and sequentially distributing stones (marbles) on the board
A player will pick a pit with a quantity of stones, and one by one place the stones in the pits next to where they came from, going counter-clockwise around the board. The big pits to the players' right side is their scoring pit. In which any placed stone contributes to that player's respective final score.
The game ends once the row in front of a player is empty. All remaining stones on the opposite side of the board go to that player's scoring pit. The winner will be whoever has the stones in their pit at the end of the game
In Mancala++, there is a deck building element that exists on top of Mancala. The typical "pick up and place" decision is now a card in a deck; of which a player draws two cards from each turn, and decides the fate of their turn. The starter deck in Mancala++ consists of 4 traditional move action cards. By spending points gained by placing marbles(stones) in that player's endzone, the player is able to gain new cards. The decks at the far ends of the board are the decks the players can acquire cards from; the left deck is cheaper, costing only 2 points to draw from, and has some utility cards, while the right deck consists of cards that can radically change the game - albeit at a steep 4 point cost.
### PLAYING ###
To play a card, simply click and drag it forward from the bottom of the screen. If a card requires you to select a pit, do so following moving the card. The card will disappear once activated, but will return to your discard pile at the end of the turn. If a player is unable to draw a card from the deck (ex. the first card drawn was the last card), the discard pile is shuffled and becomes your deck again. The remaining cards are then drawn. To purchase a card from the side decks, click and drag a card from it. Note that if the player is unable to make the purchase, the deck will simply be unavailable.
The win condition remains unchanged, though players may find it challenging to end with a high score!
Feel free to contact the devs here on Itch or on social media if you have any questions. We really recommend you check out the Wikipedia article on Mancala for further reading. It has a very, very interesting history!
Thank you for playing, and have fun!
